"I am very excited to begin my massage career at Pier View Chiropractic!  My mission is to use the healing power of touch to create a nurturing, client-centered space where my patients can work toward self-awareness and an improved quality of life.  I strive to make each massage session unique and tailored to the individual, while creating a sense of unity between myself and my patient.  I also believe that patient education is very important.  I encourage my clients to ask questions if they have any, and be actively involved in their treatment.  I look forward to working with you!"

Licensed Massage Therapist

Katherine_1.jpg

Katherine was guided toward a rewarding career in massage therapy after seeing the benefits it gave her disabled younger brother. She graduated from Seattle Massage School in 1999. Since then she chose to work as a team with several Chiropractors in the area. She is a provider for most major medical insurances including Regence Blue Shield and has treated a spectrum of patients' injuries including sports, car accidents, work related and relaxation massages.

She has her own website selling green/toxin free cleaning products. Generally you can find her savoring every moment with her children, hiking, and beach combing with her husband, organic cooking, photographing sunsets, landscapes and her ultimate muses - her kids.

Her focus is on unwinding muscle pain and tension using a compilation of techniques she has been trained in over the last 13 years of practice including Table Thai, Lomi Lomi, Myofacial Release, Passive Positional Release, Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue, Lymphatic Drainage and Reiki. As a certified Yogafit instructor she enjoys sharing yoga poses with patients for prevention and self care of injuries, as well as the importance of breathing to release stress and toxins. As a proud mother of two young children she enjoyed learning infant massage and while pregnant with her youngest trained to become a Certified Prenatal/Pregnancy Massage Therapist. She knows personally how a little comfort during that magical journey through pregnancy can go a long way.

Mary Van de Ven, LMP, RMT, CNA

Licensed Massage Practitioner

marybio4sbw.jpg

Mary’s journey in massage started out with Reiki. She knew that Reiki was the way to get her cat adjusted to living in a multi-cat household after moving to Seattle from Hawaii. It worked and after being attuned in Reiki 2 she was compelled to study massage.

She attended Northwest Academy of Healing Arts in Tacoma. Her training included Swedish, Deep Tissue, Cervical injury, Craniosacral, Lomi Lomi, Lymphatic Drainage, Reflexology, Shiatsu and Jin Shin Do (acupressure).

While in school and for sometime after she worked at a spa in Normandy Park utilizing Swedish, Deep Tissue, Reflexology and Relaxation modalities.

“There are many tools in my massage toolbox and I like to combine them for the best possible treatment.”

During this time she was also caregiver to her mother. When her mother went into a skilled nursing facility she had the opportunity to get her certificate as a nursing assistant. She has used her skills with many seniors with special needs. Reiki is ideally suited in providing comfort with this population.

“Reiki plays an important part in the healing process. As a practitioner, my role is to facilitate opening the individual’s energy centers to allow healing to come from within.”

Mary has a fine arts degree from UW. She worked as a commercial photographer and video producer in Hawaii. She now does photography as fine art and spends most of her free time with her animals and yes she gives them Reiki.
